Andrews moderates panel “Women in Print: Expanding the LA Canon” at Felix Art Fair as part of The Judith Center’s first curatorial program

At Felix Art Fair, as part of The Judith Center’s first curatorial program, Kathryn Andrews moderated the panel, “Women in Print: Expanding the LA Canon,” featuring Carol Wells, an art historian and founder of The Center for the Study of Political Graphics; Linda Vallejo, artist and printmaker affiliated with Self Help Graphics during the 1970s/1980s; and Barbara Carrasco, a graphic artist who produced visuals for the United Farm Workers of America (UFW).

The panel examined the history of women-led printmaking collectives in Los Angeles, with a particular focus on how the political nature of this production led to it being sidelined by the broader art market. The panel also explored how discriminatory practices in California led to the neglect of BIPOC artists and their cultural contributions to the greater Southern California art scene.

Andrews launches new 501(c)(3) The Judith Center during LA Art Week with a salon discussion and event at Emeco House

For its official debut The Judith Center partnered with wHY Architecture, For Freedoms, and Emeco to host a party and a salon discussion during LA Art Week. The salon featured Andrews in conversation with Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY, Michelle Woo, co-fouder of For Freedoms, Jaye Buchbinder, furniture engineer of Emeco, Leigh Arnold, curator at the Nasher Sculpture Center, and artist Tamar Halpern. The group discussed how bias in architecture impacts the perception of art and its makers.
