Andrews moderates panel “Women in Print: Expanding the LA Canon” at Felix Art Fair as part of The Judith Center’s first curatorial program
03/2/2024, Hollywood —
At Felix Art Fair, as part of The Judith Center’s first curatorial program, Kathryn Andrews moderated the panel, “Women in Print: Expanding the LA Canon,” featuring Carol Wells, an art historian and founder of The Center for the Study of Political Graphics; Linda Vallejo, artist and printmaker affiliated with Self Help Graphics during the 1970s/1980s; and Barbara Carrasco, a graphic artist who produced visuals for the United Farm Workers of America (UFW).
The panel examined the history of women-led printmaking collectives in Los Angeles, with a particular focus on how the political nature of this production led to it being sidelined by the broader art market. The panel also explored how discriminatory practices in California led to the neglect of BIPOC artists and their cultural contributions to the greater Southern California art scene.
